Island Passage

Ship Repair performed an intermediate Maritime Safety Authority marine survey on the Island Passage at the end of 2016 where repairs on her hull plate were carried out.

Following this we stripped out and painted the port and starboard engine rooms and a full service was given to the main engines and generators.

The Western Ranger re-fit began with stripping apart the brine alley and service alley. We carried out major structural repairs to the hull and plating. We replaced a lot of the Western Ranger’s pipework with new fabricated pipes and PVC pipes. We pulled out the driveline system, which involved taking out three different drive shafts and manufacturing two new intermediate shafts to put back in. [Read more…]

Evelina da Rosa – Tuna Vessel

South Pacific tuna vessel Evelina da Rosa was brought to us in May to undergo renovations from the most hard to reach areas of the fishwell’s to the hull. The team at Ship Repair NZ Ltd were able to deliver the Evelina’s owner a fully comprehensive service by bringing the 86 metre-long Evelina onto the slipway.

She is a significant vessel, weighing in at just under 2000 tonnes. Ship Repair has the largest slipway North of Auckland for working on vessels of this size, with our slipway lying inside a sheltered commercial wharf.

We repaired the Evelina da Rosa beginning with the main mast, where we cut the top crow’s nest and lengthened it to the owner’s specifications. We added a viewing platform with an aluminium sun shelter. We then modified the two existing radar platforms.

Tug Bream Bay

The vessel Tug Bream Bay came in from its home along the harbour at NorthPort for full survey.

Once up on the slipway, the tug was given the full once-over by the team, with an inspection for leaks and safety issues upmost in mind. Instructions were simple – a complete survey overhaul and painting repairs.

The service included the removal and replacement of all anode bolts, and full inspection of the vessel shottle drive units propellers, blades and nozzles. All fuel tanks were checked thoroughly, as well as all hull valves were removed, stripped, cleaned and service ready for the surveyor’s inspection.

The job ended with water-blasting and abrasive on the outer hull, with a new paint finish to complete.
