Coastal Carrier

The 52 metre dredge Coastal Carrier came to Whangarei Harbour marine maintenance and survey specialists Ship Repair towards the end of 2017. We got the Coastal Carrier back in ship shape with a general survey and replaced many hull plates.

We carried out general fabrication and welding repairs over the main decks, and a general blast and paint of the paint system.

Split Hopper Barge WH762

Split Hopper Barge WH762 – Heron Construction

This 59 metre non-propelled split hopper barge came to Whangarei Harbour experts Ship Repair recently. The 750m3 vessel has a large open hold and is used to transport dredged material. We carried out general fabrication and welding repairs over the main decks.

Following this was replacement of four sets of large mooring bollards.

Boarding steps then needed to be fabricated and installed on the port and starboard.

Following this we carried out removal of the small machinery house and a tidy up and paint job.

There was also a full strip of the underwater paint and a full paint system over the complete barge.

Vantage & Advantage

We were privileged to fix up both a well-known superyacht and her support vessel during spring this year.

Vantage

The 46m superyacht Vantage was in recently for a general marine survey and small structural aluminium repairs from Whangarei custom refit and repair experts Ship Repair.

We removed the shafts and carried out a complete driveline alignment survey, then we put in all new bearings.

The structural repairs consisted of removing sections of the interior and protecting the vessel for hotworks (welding, cutting and hot rivets). We cut out the cracked sections of structure and replaced these with new material. All work was done under the strict instructions of the local Lloyd’s surveyor.

The vessel received a full antifoul coating and some new topside paint work.

Advantage

The Vantage’s 54m support vessel, the Sea Axe Advantage, received a full bearing replacement and alignment survey.

This work was overseen by the ship builders, engineers from Damen Shipyards. Our trusty crew at Ship Repair carried out the work under their strict guidance.

A section of the hull at the ship’s bow had been damaged, so this required cutting and replacing with new material.

A lot of the interior spaces received new custom-made stainless and aluminium shelving, fabricated and fitted in position.

The vessel also received a full antifouling on the hull and touch-up painting on the topside.

San Columbia

Recently we performed a general full term survey on the San Columbia, a 205 tonne 33m trawler.

Following the survey, we went ahead with removal of the main drive shaft and lifted the two intermediate shafts for inspection of the bearings.

Removal of the rudder and associated components was required next. We then carried out hull corrosion repairs in numerous areas.

Next we surveyed then carried out repairs to the main booms and lifting equipment.

Last but not least, we sandblasted the San Columbia and repainted her, to look spectacular in the new Sanford’s blue colour scheme.

The Kemp

The Kemp came in and we undertook an intermediate survey and a touch up paint job to tidy her up.

As you can see, often we can fit more than one boat onto the slip at once.
