The Auckland-based Barge Pohonui was brought to Ship Repair to undergo a refit project, which included the 55-metre long vessel undergoing main deck strengthening from underneath, as well as the installation of a new sea inlet to service the generator.
The vessel’s tanks were checked for thickness, while a new stack exhaust system was fabricated and installed on the deck and down to the generator engine.
An 18m section of the bin hopper side was removed and a new section fabricated and welded in position. There were two new winches mounted to the main deck along with hawse pipes to feed the chain lockers.
The project was finished off with a paint job to complete the new look of the barge.
